Weller & Foxton
by Simon
Just browsing Youtube, and came across this, a live performance from about a year and a half ago of Paul Weller performing Eton Rifles. But wait a minute, who is that on bass? A scary shiver of whoah. Great stuff.

I saw ‘From The Jam’ again last week, Simon. (I know, many are far from enamoured with the whole idea – but they’re usually the ones who haven’t actually seen them).
It was an excellent gig by the lads in Huddersfield Town Hall. Typical impressive Victorian ornate building with high ceiling and balcony. (And superb Gentlemens toilets with 1st class porcelain!). On a foul night, only about 200 were there. Therefore, prob less than half full. I needn’t have worried about that. The band were really up for it. From the opening ‘Town Called Malice’, they deliberately kept a high tempo – incl a much faster versh of ‘That’s Entertainment’. Within 2-3 songs, the audience were ‘aving it – large! Nice to see the many youngsters there as usual, amongst the dads. A fact acknowledged by Russell Hastings with a cock-on ‘When You’re Young’. Far more women present than in ‘our day’ too.
The set list was perfect for the occasion with the best ‘Man In The Corner Shop’ I can ever remember. Thick As Thieves, Strange Town, Smithers-Jones, and Private Hell raised the alabaster.
The great news was the talk of the new album. Recorded at Weller’s place, featuring the Boy Wonder himself, it will be called ‘Foxton’ and will feature the other 2, along with ‘special guests’.
They played 2 new songs from it; ‘No 6′ – about a working class street, and ‘Window Shopping’ which, dare I say, to my ears sounded just like a Weller composition!! Both tracks were upbeat and very good indeed with all the hallmark hooks and riffs.
The band seem extremely comfortable in their own skin which made it all the more enjoyable.
The new Foxton album (his first since ’84) is released on 1st October; more news is at the fans-funding site pledgemusic.com – the top idea where the fans cough up first for the album to allow for its promotion etc. I suspect (and sincerely hope) that it will be a highlight of the year for the likes of us. Pledge for your copy through the site now.
Howdo mate, hows you? I heard about the Foxton just the other day, this year is shaping up to be a good year for the vintage boys!
